Can I even do that? everything I've read instructs me to go to the plugins option, but I don't have a plugins options. then on the wordpress site I read that they don't allow plugins. What should I do? I really don't feel like creating a whole other blog, I just started this one.
You can't do that on WordPress.com you have to have a self-hosted blog. I haven't had a WordPress.com blog in a long time for that simple fact. Even when I did insert the Adsense code into my posts, they'd strip it out. they DO NOT want you making money with your blog. if you violate their TOS, they will suspende your blog. I can't tell you how many blogs of mine they've suspended. Even if you so much as use WordPress.com as a bridge page to link y our blog to a real monetized site, they'll suspend you. That's how I got most of mine suspended.
However, all hope is not lost. if you don't want to buy web hosting (here are some good web hosts with 1-click WordPress installation goo.gl/LN1Gy ) then head on over to Blogger.com Blogger is owned by Google and Google owns Adsense. you can Adsense your little heart out over there all you want. unfortunately, it does require you to create a new blog. You'll have to copy and paste your old posts over unless you get some 16;hing like this tothepc.com/archives/import-c… I have not tried it myself, so I have no idea if it works. looks like your file can't be bigger than 1meg.

Is your blog created on WordPress.com? I don't think they allow you to monetize your site there. do you have access to widgets? if you do, you can drag over the text widget and paste your adsense code in there.
