So I received a letter in the mail from my isp saying an anti-p2p company notified them that they caught me downloading a movie and if it happens again they're going to shut off my net and turn me over to them. the file in context here is the new movie "dark knight". It was dumb for me to download that right after it came out on cam version. That is why I got caught. If anything was going to be tracked it would be that file. Anyway, like an idiot, I changed my port number, enabled protocol encryption in utorrent, start ;ed using peer guardian, and began pirating again just like I've been doing for 5 years. Only this time, I downloaded only from private trackers and reputable users. I also used more discretion on which files I was downloading. I suppose only those who have used the program "peer guardian" will be able to answer my question, but here goes.
I left the room downloading a 10 year old file that no company would care about. I came back and peer guardian was blocking quite a fe 9; ips. some of the most obvious anti-p2p companies were Mediadefender, (dozens of them a minute) Serverbeach emule fake p2p files, moontaxi media, and a few others. Mediadefender seemed especially persistant constantly changing its port number and also changing ips. however, they were all blocked which was good feeling. I was wondering…what's the chance of 1 of the 500 "bad ips" that were blocked actually making it through the filter. I've already had one warning from the isp so I'm wondering if my persistence and stupidity landed me in a pile of crap this time. If one got through, I don't foresee 20 FBI agents storming into my house, but I'm a little worried about a fine. If I get one, then rightfully so. I have since stopped pirating music, software, videos, etc after this second scare. but am I too late?
Yes you can get caught and fined.
How? They track you by your IP address.
